2 year FULL update

So the little man turned two and mommy can't quite believe it. I am still having touble not calling him baby. Poor child must be so confused by my calling baby now and then, then telling him he should be do something himself because he is a "big boy". I MUST get better about this, but it is really hard. He will ALWAYS be my baby!!!

Cute stories and facts:
At a playgroup that we hosted at home, all of the kids were walking in a line each having a train car in hand going around and around on the train track table. What was G doing, you ask? Sitting in his chair next to the table reading a book!

The other day, Daddy was downstairs drinking coffee at the dinning room table when G walked up to his Daddy, put his head on his lap and said "Gable loves Daddy".

Although he is working on saying "yes", he communicates yes as "okie dokie", or "umhum" and nodding his head. He has "no" down pat, let me tell you!

He calls himself "Gable" and still talks about himself in the 3rd person. We are working on this, but I can't say that we are making any obvious progress with it. He says I, you, me, but he just doesn't use them in the correct context.

He is quite the commentator. He is always explaining what he is doing or what was done or what is going to be done. "Gable floating up in the sky to the clouds". EVERTHING in his life will or has "floated up to the clouds" at one point or another.

The smallest of noises or expressions just makes him giggle like crazy. You could just be making some random new noise and he will think it is just the funniest thing EVER! He often throws his head back with laughter.

He has this funny whine that doesn't get him anywhere so I am not sure why he still attempts using it. It's a whine/cry combo kind of thing that it too hard to explain, but hilarious. So hard not to laugh when he tries this.

Still takes his paci for naps and night time. "Nunna" will need to make a full exit at some point, but boy, does that child love his "nunna". He is still in a crib, but as Daddy and I work on getting his new room ready, we figure that the transitions between rooms would be a great opportunity to try his "big boy" toddler bed. We will keep you posted on how that goes. We got him this really cool clock that will tell him when it is time to sleep and when it's time to get up. We are hopeful that this is going to help him understand the concept and to not come running into mommy and daddy's room during his occasional 5am wake ups. He always goes back to sleep, but I am a bit worried to see what is going to happen when he has the option to get out of bed. Should be interesting to say the least.

He often talks about mommy's "big belly". He knows that his sister is in there and that he has to be careful around mommy's tummy. I am sure he hasn't gotten the concept yet. He seems to be convinced that he is going to be having a "big sister". At this point, mommy might just agree with him!

He still doesn't sing, but loves to be sang to. He ALWAYS claps for mommy when she sings him a song....sometimes during the song, but mostly after. He does this with a BIG smile on his face! Too darn cute, I will tell you that!

He is still a champ when it comes to his numbers and shapes. He is getting even better with his letters. He has basically blown away any expected milestones for his age group. He washes and drys his own hands, draws and knows "stripes" and "poka dots". He knows and recognizes all of his primary and secondary colors and knows and recognizes about 50%, maybe a little bit more of his alphabet. He can now count to 19, just hasn't quite gotten to 20 yet. He knows the difference between hot and cold and describes things by feel as well (soft, sticky, fluffy). G also knows the difference between sizes. He calls small "itty bitty", medium, and "BIG". When he is faced with building "towers" he can pick out the biggest, then the next biggest, all the way to the smallest. He also opens door now as well. His running has "improved", but mommy is missing his silly little run that was SUPER cute. At some point it would have become a run that only a mother would love, but it was adorable while it lasted! Jumping is a different story. He still hesitates jumping on the trampoline at gym class. He is more likely to jump on the floor. He does love to run though!

He obsesses over the funniest of things or events. If one of his "boons" pops, we will talk about the events that lead up to and proceeded the "boon" popping for DAYS!!!!!

He loves to tell Daddy what he did during the day. Mommy and he often talk about the events of each play date, gym class and any event or day.
He does really well sharing his own toys when we are at home. He often backs away when kids want to play with something of his and just take it from him. This can be looked at as wonderful if you are a mom who is having trouble getting their toddler to share without having a meltdown. But to me, I get nervous that when he starts at a preschool program, that he will just be backing down all the time and letting other kids dominate him all day long. So we are teaching him, of coarse the concept of sharing (by far the hardest concept to teach a toddler), but also trying to make sure he knows how to ask for something back if he wasn't ready to share it. It's a thin and difficult line to follow, so I am not sure how far this is going to go. He just isn't mature enough to understand when to recognize the difference in situations. So we will just start explaining things now and just like everything else in his life thus far, he will make sense of it when he is ready.

He is doing really well with utensils now. Feeding himself almost all of the time (including soups), unless he just gets bored or tired of doing it, then mommy and daddy will often still help out in order to make sure he gets enough to eat. He has been able to drink from a regular cut for a while now, but mostly still drinks from his straw sippy cups or camelbak.

Potty training is, well, just not happening. He shows no interest what-so-ever in using the potty for anything but as something that he occasionally sits on. We ALMOST went pee pee on the potty, but he got off the potty, mommy looked away to do something for a few seconds, and it happened.....on the floor. We just are not pushing it with him. He has at least gotten to the point to where he will tell me if he is going to go are currently going potty in his diaper. Just with #2 though, not peepee. More information that you cared to get, I know, but this is also going to be fun to look back on when he is older! :-)
Some of his favorite things:
Tigra, of coarse (his lovie)

Going to see the doctor, although he talks about the doctor himself very fondly. I suppose it would be the nurses he doesn't quite like. He often talks about "Dr. Coleman" very fondly.
Not getting his way..he is a toddler after all!!! :-)

Upon his 2 year visit with his doctor he:
Weighed in at 27lbs 6.5 ozs - 45% percentile
35 inches tall - 70% percentile
Head was at 48cm - 40th percentile

He is sooo tall and lean. Just like his daddy!

I will leave you with the most recent family pictures taken shortly before Christmas, and his 2 year old photos. He has become quite the model! :-)
